On 15 October 2016 Hannes Botha and Carl O’Shea, two of the Hatstone Group Partners, completed the 21.1km Meiringspoort Half Marathon which took place near the small town of De Rust, outside Oudtshoorn, in the Western Cape of South Africa.
Unfortunately for Carl his visit to Hatstone Lawyers in South Africa coincided with Hannes’ long-decided plans to compete in the race. Fortunately though both were up to the challenge and completed the race with time to spare.
With picturesque views of waterfalls and low-hanging rock protrusions, it is no wonder that 3000 people flocked to this remote area to be a part of this event which was first held in 1993, and has since been extended to 21.1km. With both partners wanting to see who could outrun the other, there was also a philanthropic motivation to their participation. The race is known for its support of the Herberg Children’s Home, a charitable institution that provides accommodation for up to 122 children of all ages. As the government only provides 48% of its expected budget, the Home relies heavily on the funding provided by these events.
